Garlic Parmesan Fries Recipe

French fries are a universal comfort food, and a few simple additions — minced garlic, butter, shredded Parmesan, and fresh parsley — turn ordinary fries into a memorable treat. These loaded fries are perfect alongside burgers or chicken, or served as an appetizer at a game night or party.

We love experimenting with loaded fry variations after creating favorites like Bacon & Cheese Loaded Fries and Pulled Pork Loaded Waffle Fries. This Garlic Parmesan version was inspired by the garlic fries served at Red Robin.

You can prepare these loaded fries in an air fryer or bake them on a sheet pan in the oven. Our Cuisinart air fryer-toaster oven comfortably cooks about a pound of steak fries at a time.

Steak fries are wide and hearty, providing extra surface area to hold garlic and grated Parmesan without getting soggy — they’re ideal for loaded fries.

Tips for Making Loaded Fries

  • Choose steak fries for more surface area to hold garlic and cheese.
  • Cook fries in a single layer when possible to ensure crispness.
  • Shake the air fryer basket or stir fries on the baking sheet a couple of times for even cooking.
  • Because steak fries vary in size, smaller pieces will finish before larger ones — separate them while stirring if you want more even doneness.
  • An air fryer may not hold an entire bag in a single layer; use a large baking sheet when cooking for a crowd.

Can Fresh Potatoes Be Used?

Yes. Peel (if desired) and cut fresh potatoes into evenly sized fries. Par-cook them until about 90% done — whether by baking, frying, or air frying — then add the garlic-butter and toppings and finish them according to the instructions for frozen fries.

Ingredients Needed

  • Frozen steak fries (or fresh-cut potatoes)
  • Butter
  • Minced garlic
  • Shredded Parmesan cheese
  • Fresh parsley, chopped

How to Make Loaded Garlic Steak Fries

You can use either an air fryer or an oven. Follow the fries’ package instructions and cook them until about 90–95% done so they are nearly crisp before adding the toppings.

While the fries are cooking, melt the butter in a medium bowl and stir in the minced garlic. Add the hot fries to the bowl and toss gently to coat them in garlic butter.

Transfer the coated fries to the center of the air fryer tray or a baking sheet. Sprinkle chopped parsley and shredded Parmesan evenly over the fries.

Return the loaded fries to the air fryer or oven for 1–3 minutes, just long enough for the cheese to melt and for fries to reach your desired crispness. Serve immediately while warm.
