On Being Sensitive

I recently returned from the East Coast and, while recording this episode last-minute, I spent a lot of time reflecting. That reflection led me to create this episode about being a Highly Sensitive Person (HSP).

Many of you may find this relatable, whether you identify as an HSP or not. If you want to explore further, the official HSP quiz is available on the HSP website.

Discovering that I am an HSP changed how I treat myself. It allowed me to offer myself more patience and compassion over the past few years. In this episode I share practical tips and strategies I use to live well as an HSP, and why I now view sensitivity as a strength rather than a weakness.

A few years ago friends introduced me to Karina Antonopoulos, who was a guest on Harder to Kill Radio (episode 78). Taking the HSP quiz after that conversation felt eye-opening—many of the questions described me perfectly. Like many HSPs, I’d once assumed something was wrong with me.

To be clear, HSP is not a disorder but a personality trait. The cultural tone around sensitivity often feels negative, so I want to normalize taking care of yourself if you’re sensitive. If others won’t give you the space you need, give it to yourself—and encourage other HSPs to do the same.
