Unlike the Pimm’s Cup Cocktail, this Pimm’s Sundowner is a straightforward Pimm’s cocktail recipe without elaborate garnishes. It’s served over ice for a refreshing drink to enjoy at the end of the day.
I don’t drink often — I’m a lightweight — but Pimm’s is my favorite liqueur, so occasionally I make a simple Pimm’s cocktail. This Pimm’s Sundowner is fast to assemble and perfect when you want something light and flavorful.

Why you’ll love this cocktail
- This recipe uses just four ingredients.
- No shaker or special tools required — just a glass and a spoon.
- Light and refreshing, ideal for warm evenings or a relaxing sundowner.
Ingredients and substitutions
The full ingredient list and quantities are in the recipe card at the end of the post. Notes and substitution suggestions are below:

- Pimm’s No. 1 – a gin-based, spiced liqueur. This cocktail relies on Pimm’s No. 1 for its distinctive flavor, so substituting a plain gin won’t produce the same result.
- Orange juice – fresh-squeezed orange juice gives the best brightness; bottled juice works if needed.
- Apple juice – fresh apple juice is preferred (from a juicer or a fresh-bottled variety). Avoid juice from concentrate for the best taste.
- Lemonade – homemade lemonade is great, but store-bought sweetened lemonade keeps the recipe quick and simple.
How to make Pimm’s Sundowner
Fill a small glass with ice. Add Pimm’s, orange juice, apple juice and lemonade. Stir to combine, garnish with an orange slice if you like, and serve immediately.

I adapted this version from an older Pimm’s recipe. The original called for fresh lemon juice with a touch of sugar syrup, but I find lemonade creates a milder, more balanced drink.
FAQs
A sundowner, in British colloquial use, refers to an alcoholic drink taken at the end of the day, typically around sundown.
Pimm’s later released a bottled “Sundowner” with raspberry and redcurrant flavors. This recipe uses classic Pimm’s No. 1 and is not the same as that bottled variation.
