September Favorites: Top Picks and Must-Haves This Month

Hello, hello!

I always say it, but how is this month already over? Thanksgiving is less than two months away and the end of the year is approaching fast. I’m feeling all the feelings right now.

September was packed with apple picking, fall festivals, weekend getaways, and nonstop recipe testing for Thanksgiving. Even though much of the month still felt like summer, I’ve been full-force into end-of-year content planning.

We squeezed in one last beach trip, spent a weekend away with friends, and are slowly, stubbornly adjusting to shorter days and the reality that summer is officially behind us.

Before the month slips away, here are the things that got me excited in September.

September Things

Tahini

I recently discovered a tahini from Pepperwood Organic made from whole, unhulled sesame seeds that are stone-ground into a creamy, richly flavored paste. Like the difference between whole grain and refined flour, using the whole seed preserves more nutrients, so it tastes deeper and offers more vitamins and minerals than many conventional tahinis. I bought a 2-pack on Amazon; my only gripe is that it comes in plastic rather than glass.

Golden Turmeric Lattes

There’s something satisfying about honoring what your body wants: all summer I wasn’t interested in golden milk, and then, as the season shifted, I woke up craving one. Maybe it’s the bright golden color, the immune-boosting ginger and turmeric, or simply the warm, soothing sweetness on cooler mornings. I use this recipe most often, tweaking spices or milk depending on what I have and what I’m craving.

Cozy Pullovers

This month I’ve lived in a few favorite pullovers: the LLBean quilted pullover, a super-soft lightweight men’s pullover I repurposed for myself, and my beloved Patagonia pullover. Quilted styles have become my go-to—they’re warm, comfortable, and actually cute.

Granola

Granola has been my snack of choice lately—by the handful, with yogurt, or with milk. There’s always a batch of my classic maple and olive oil granola on hand, and I recently fell for a raw, fermented, extra-chunky granola from Living Raw that’s become a staple. If you enjoy raw, sprouted, or fermented foods, this is worth trying. It’s sold in various pack sizes; check the brand for options. Kevin has been into Clif Bar’s Blueberry Energy Granola, which we’ve also been buying a lot.

Pottery Barn’s Harry Potter Collection

I’m a longtime Harry Potter fan, and Pottery Barn’s new collection has me feeling nostalgic. We already ordered the golden snitch snack bowl and the Map of Hogwarts is on my wish list for the holidays. Towels, clocks, mirrors, and throw blankets from the collection are all tempting—if it weren’t a little excessive I’d probably want everything.

Early Morning Walks

This month I’ve loved getting out for misty early morning walks. They provide a bit of sunshine and movement before the day gets busy, and the quiet stillness of early mornings has been essential for my mental health. With a full schedule and little free time, those walks have become a necessary ritual.

That’s all for today! September was busy, and simple comforts—granola, tahini, cozy pullovers, turmeric lattes, and a little Harry Potter—carried me through. I hope you’re enjoying the last weekend of the month. See you next month for my October favorites!
